Format Qualifiers and Final
Number of Runs Qualifiers - 2 runs; Final - 2 runs
Competition Format
Qualifying Round: Two runs per competitor. The rider field is divided into groups of 10 competitors. For a given group, each group member completes one run and receives a first run score. Then each group member completes a second run, and receives a second run score. The greater score of each competitor’s first run score and second run score will be assigned to that competitor’s final run score. The top 8 riders will advance to the finals and be run in reverse order of their preliminary finishes. 8th will go first and 1st will go last.
Final: Two runs per competitor. Each of eight (8) competitors will complete one run and will receive a first run score. Each competitor will then complete a second run and will receive a second run score. The greater score of each competitor’s first run score and second run score will be assigned to that competitor’s final run score. Competitors are ranked 1-8 based on final run score.
Competition Flow
Qualifying Round:
Riders will be divided into fields (heats) of 10.
Each field will get a 10-minute warm up session before competition.
In Start Order, all 10 competitors will take a first run.
In Start Order, all 10 competitors will take a second run.
Final
In Start Order, all 8 competitors will take a first run.
In Start Order, all 8 competitors will take a second run.
Equipment Failure or Damage / Equipment Timeout
If a rider experiences equipment failure or damage within the first 30 seconds of any run, the rider has the option to call an Equipment Timeout by signaling to the judges to stop the clock. Only one Equipment Timeout per rider per run is allowed. Equipment Timeouts will not be granted after 30 seconds into the run. Equipment Timeouts are for equipment failure or equipment damage only. Riders shaken up or injured as a result of a crash will not be granted an Equipment Timeout unless the crash was caused by equipment failure or the crash has caused equipment damage.
An Equipment Timeout gives the rider a two-minute time period in which to repair his equipment. During this two-minute repair period, the official clock will be reset to the time displayed when the difficulty occurred. When the two-minute repair period is over, the official clock counts down from the reset time and the rider will either resume his run or be timed out for the run.
Computation of Scores
Qualifying Round:
First run score and second run score
Each of the 5 judges scores a competitor using the 60-100 point whole number scale. The 3 remaining scores are added together and divided by 3. The result is formatted to 2 decimal places (e.g. 89.55). In all cases the value is truncated after the second decimal place rather than rounded.
Final:
First run score and second run score
Each of the 3 judges scores a competitor using the 75-100 point whole number scale. The 3 remaining scores are added together and divided by 3. The result is formatted to 2 decimal places (e.g. 89.55). In all cases the value is truncated after the second decimal place rather than rounded.
Judging is based on overall impression of each run by evaluating:
Amplitude;
Originality and creativity;
Style;
Use of the course; and, Run flow.
Difficulty
final run score
